Upcoming Events: Can't Miss

Ladies!!  Sign up now for a fun weekend!

All aboard for Augusta, GA for our annual Women’s Retreat October 18, 19 20, 2019!  This is a weekend of fun, fellowship and a chance to get to know everyone who attends better.  We will leave my house at 9am Friday, Oct. 18th.  I have plenty of safe parking spaces to leave your car over the weekend.  We will go travel in the church bus and individual cars if needed.

Friday, out first stop will be the Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta.  I recently visited and was very impressed with how well done this center is.  We will tour the museum, the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and the reflection pool which is beautiful.  After leaving the Center, we will have a picnic lunch, and go to Augusta.

We will check in at Comfort Suites, 2911 Rivercrest, Augusta, phone 706-434-2540, where we will be for the weekend.  Each room has two queen beds, microwave, refrigerator, hairdryer, etc with two people staying in each room and includes a hot breakfast. At 5:30 we will go the Big Daddy’s to eat.  They have everything from sandwiches to BBQ, steak, seafood, chicken, etc.  Then we will go to the Imperial Theater to see the Queen’s Cartoonists.  Performance starts at 7:30 until 9:30. The Queen’s Cartoonists play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation. The performances are synchronized to video projections of the original films, and the band leads the audience through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem, and comedy.

Saturday morning we will go to Aiken, SC, checkout the visitor’s center and then take a trolley tour of the city at 10.  This is a 2 hour tour.  We will return to Augusta, have lunch, and then go to Meadow Garden.  Meadow Garden is one of Georgia’s oldest dwellings. This national historic landmark was the home of George Walton, perhaps the youngest signer of the “Declaration of Independence,” who was only 26 when he signed it.  He was appointed governor of Georgia in 1779 and was elected governor again in 1789. The home features 18th and 19th Century American and English furnishings, porcelains, paintings and primitive household equipment.
Saturday evening around 5pm we will go to the Augusta Canal and tour the museum, watch a short film and then board a Petersburg boat for the “Tribute to Broadway Cruise”.  This will feature Broadway hits sung by Malanie Wade Larson.  This boat tour is 1 ½ hours – from 6 to 7:30.  Have not determined when we are going to eat dinner.
Sunday morning after breakfast we will check out and go to North Augusta to “Colonial Times – A Day To Remember” and attend an 18th century Anglican worship service at 10:30 in the meeting house.  Those of you who went on Women’s Retreat when we went to Augusta previously will remember what happened when we went to this event at that time.  After the service we will watch our colonial past come to life through demonstrations and living exhibits. Featured attractions include hornsmithing, pottery, a tomahawk throw, butter churning, weaving and spinning, quilting, candle making, scrimshaw, pewterer, musket firing demonstrations, calligraphy, gunsmithing, blacksmithing, woodworking, and meat smoking and curing.   Be sure to stop and visit with the Indian traders, the backwoodsmenthe sutlers, the milliner, the tavern keeper, pet the animals, etc.  There will be colonial dances and everyone is invited to join in and learn the different dances.   We will eat lunch somewhere in Augusta and then return home. Watch our colonial past come to life through demonstrations and living exhibits.

We will eat lunch somewhere in Augusta and return home Sunday afternoon.
Cost will be $185.00 for the weekend.  This will cover:
                        Gas
                        Picnic lunch
                        Queen’s Cartoonists
                        Aiken Trolley Tour
Meadow Gardens Tour
                        Tribute To Broadway Cruise
                        Comfort Suites room for weekend
